Man, I wish that was the case at places I worked at. My last company would give you stipends for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Try to spend that stipend at a convenience store because you don’t eat breakfast and just want some coffee and a snack for later? Screw you, we’re deducting from your paycheck for that.

I had a coworker who got caught on the wrong side of that policy. Since then, he’d always max out his stipend at every meal. Apps, desserts, etc. He’d get a second entree just to take back to his hotel as long as it wouldn’t put him over the limit.

He probably cost the company hundreds extra because they wouldn’t reimburse him for a bag of chips one time.

I know some bank tellers who say they are taught to comply with ANY robbery instructions. Even if it’s as simple as someone slipping them a note saying, “This is a robbery” with no explicit threats. If they feel comfortable, they can slip him the marked bills or dye packs, but they won’t be punished if they don’t. Get the robber out, lock the door, call the cops.

I could totally see the tellers recognizing the avocado for what it was and figuring it was on the cops to catch him, not theirs.

  • The way that my groups play it, the party is basically a hivemind of everything that the RL players know (minus Bestiary minutiae the PCs would have zero reason to know on first encounters), plus any knowledge the PCs might get from dice rolls. Just because I’m playing the 8 Int barbarian doesn’t mean I have to go sit in the corner waiting for the next roll for initiative.

We just handwave the solution as saying the smartest PC came up with the plan, or if a dumb character rolls high, we role play him catching the Smart Ball and have the other PCs react in character.

Different tables have different tolerances for metagaming. Sorry you had a table that would rather browbeat the new guy for pushing that boundary instead of giving you a chance to adjust.

  • I was a player in a campaign where two of the other players just full-on sprinted past every sign post the (Pathfinder) GM threw up saying, “This character is here to give quests. He is much higher level than you. Don’t attack him. He will slaughter you.”

They pulled out their weapons and made to attack the guy and my CN character was like, “You have fun with that. I don’t want to die today.” The quest giver and our other party member tried to talk them out of it for a couple rounds AFTER they started attacking (and doing no damage, naturally). The NPC then started using non-lethal spells to try to defuse the situation. A couple rounds of that and the GM finally gave up went hostile. Two or three AoE attacks later and both characters were gone.

They rolled new characters, but I didn’t last much longer in that campaign.

I had a copy of Are You Gonna Be My Girl by Jet that would cut out and loop back in the middle of the song. I listened to it so much I could sing along without missing a beat. Then whenever I heard the right version, it always felt weird when the song flowed through normally.
