Seen this on the powershell subreddit before, it just downloads and runs another executable.

Is mono not the .net framework version? .net core has always been multi platform, but is not compatible with .net framework apps. So any .net apps built against 3.5 or 4.x would still need to use mono.
Funny thing is I remember control panel being criticized for having things too many dialogs deep. Now you have more clicks when using settings instead of less.
Yep, depending on the version it was under either administrative tools or system tools option in control panel. It’s now also in the menu when you right click the start button.
You can now reach the network connections folder, using an option on the network status page. It’s something like advanced network options. Still all the classic stuff, but avoids “control panel.” I’m going to guess links like that are not going to be removed.
If they just outright remove all of that, you really will need to learn how to do everything in powershell.
If you don’t mind having email go through Gmail etc, then you might not want to full host, but just run a local IMAP server. There are some pop to SMTP solutions you can use to pull your emails (fetchmail.) you can then use your account as an outbound relay. Keep in mind you’ll only be able to set this up for a single account if you use something like Gmail.
If you buy a business product like workspace or m365, you should be able to setup relay/hybrid connectors for multiple accounts.
Bd players need internet as they only have keys for the discs made before they were made. So if you stick a newer disc in it won’t play until it gets updated.
Microsoft actually tried to make these changes to prevent the need for kernal drivers. However security companies called foul and the EU told ms to not continue. There was worry that defender would end up with better access than 3rd party products.
S mode does allow you to turn it off, so it’s more like a hobbled version of home.
The computer is as bad as one I saw several years ago with 64g emmc and “Quad core processor.” not a quad core, it was literally the name that showed in system. It did have 4 cores: at 400Mhz, boosting to 1.1Ghz. Buyer changed their mind and we couldn’t give it away.
That’s amazing someone did that, and now we know they were all worthless anyway so it was even more ridiculous.
So no change whatsoever then? Ever since it released windows 10 patch testing has been “release to end user and see what the complaints are.”
Shift F10 just opens the command prompt. After that it’s the name of a batch file in the oobe folder. (Out of box experience.) You can tab complete the name so you just have to remember the oobe part. The biggest annoyance is if you buy a laptop that is in S mode, you can’t start command prompt to do this.
All it does is add a registry key, and reboot, but you would have to know how to do custom windows deployments to to create an image to skip it always.
Starting June 2024, iFixit will no longer be Samsung’s designated third-party parts and tools distributor. Also starting next month, we will no longer have a quantity limit of seven Samsung parts per repair shop per quarter.
Wow that is quite a limit Samsung. I can see why no one would want to be a partner with them. (Which was obviously the point.)
Well it may or may not be wrong. One of the measures would be, can Reddit afford the price if it also had pay for the same access? If the answer is no, then it might be considered preferential treatment to their own app. However ianal so there could be a carve out for that.
Maybe it was just me but I never had issues with the u shaped dryers. Although I normally put my hands in by the side, wrists above, kept them flat, and drew out slowly. Dry hands every time.
Other dryers just end up pushing water to the dry side of your hand.
It depends where you want the complexity.
Since ssh is a layer4 tunnel if you don’t run a proxy on your home box, you’ll need a new network connection for each service, if you are fine with that, I would set it up only on the VPS. This means if the tunnel goes down, you should at least get 502 error rather than a timeout or connection refused.
Alternatively you could forward 80, 443 to a proxy service on the home server. That would require two ports for the ssh.
You can drop it to a single ssh connection by having a proxy on both and just have the VPS proxy Http and https to the same port on the home server.
It’s almost like trying to squish different security architectures on top of each other doesn’t work well. It’s a nice idea, but it was either not going to work smoothly or be a big security issue.
turn off the toggle for “Show recommendations for tips, app promotions, and more.”
I turn this off anyway, as in Windows 10 it always kept pushing 3rd party apps. Is this ad any different to the Windows 10 “Suggested App” that was in the start menu for it?
For years people have known it can’t be upgraded. You know that going in.
Not sure that is true, lots of people see the marketing for a MacBook and think that any of them will be enough. Or see the price difference and think they are getting a good deal, or don’t understand why that is. I’ve had to tell people, sorry I know you spent a lot of money on this, but it does not have the storage for what you are wanting to do. Yes, the only way is to buy another one.
Otherwise yea, everyone tries to gaslight customers into thinking they didn’t get ripped off.
One of the nice things about Gmail at the time, was that you could access your emails when not home. If you were at a friend’s or on holiday at a net café, all you needed was to know your email and password.
That sounds silly, but at the time the majority of ISP mailboxes were pop only. Or those Webmails you could get were attached to what you would now think of comically small mailboxes. Full history Webmail added a convenience we didn’t get before.
