I’ll go out on a limb here and suggest that most of the FOSS alternatives I’ve discovered in the last 12-18 months have been just as good if not better than paid alternatives. The issue they face mostly is lack of visibility. I couldn’t believe my eyes when I discovered Beat for screenplay writing for the first time.

This is my exact setup, but I use premiumize. And I have a Plex server setup for anything obscure. But that’s all too much for a couple of my friends, but they loved movie-web.app

Anybody have any recommendations for my friends who are too lazy/scared to go down the actual piracy route? Movie-web was my goto

I started using JustWatch as a means to find which streaming service had the thing I wanted to watch. Then I started using it to track what I had watched. And now that I’m completely moved over to stremio+torrentio I use it to find what’s popular and new.

As for remote access, I have a separate machine running alpine with wireguard in a docker container, I VPN into that machine to get access to other devices in the network

Watch new/untested content on debrid. Hoard content you love (physical or digital).

I use premiumize instead of rd because they also scrape Usenet and Ddl links. little bit more expensive but has been worth it imo
