  • As a pixel owner, none of the exclusives seem part of android. It’s been stuff like camera effects, which I associate more with apps. As someone who loved nexus and wished pixels were more like that, I’m disappointed too with the proliferation of play services apis. However, I don’t mind that pixels are competitive, as I think it fosters innovation. If pixels were like nexus, and just a pure android experience, there would be nothing new in the last few generations. Phone OS innovation has plateaued.

  • Surely we van look at apps that allow more informed data but without the anxiety. Like, here’s your data, this is less frequent than average. Or, here is your data, its the same as before. Or here is your data, its slightly different again, so we’ve already notifies your doctor, but usually this is nothing to be concerned about. Etc.

Lots of patients with other conditions have yo do similar, like diabetics monitoring sugar levels. Or asthmatics who can induce attacks by getting stressed about attacks.

We could build in some mindfulness exercises which help with anxiety. I’d say overall, its better.

  • With synology, its easy to use but you need an account with them to do a bunch of stuff easily.

However, you can also self host a bunch of stuff, without a synology account, but its easier with.

Personally, I’ve got a synology and would recommend it. My next has will likely be a beefier synology as I’ve got a pretty basic one and it struggles to have all the arrs and jellyfin running at once. My next after that would probably be a repurposed PC or laptop or self build. The synology experience will allow me to identify what I actually want to achieve.

If you currently don’t use any cloud services, then maybe its not for you. If you do, I’d get the synology with the synology account and reduce my cloud dependency. You don’t have to start with perfect. There can be a path that’s just gradual incremental improvement.

  • Back in the day, sometimes USA TV shows would not air overseas for months depending on the schedule. Often spoilers online would ruin some parts. Piracy solved this. Then they started doing same time release worldwide but you had to use buggy streaming services and the quality was poor. Then they tried selling shows for much more than their worth on a per episode basis. Piracy fixed all these problems. Netflix was a good, reasonable solution and then they all decided to dontheor own thing. Piracy it is then.

Its funny that even Netflix knew that the greed of others was their biggest risk as they planned to be streaming HBO before HBO and others caught up. Its a pity they didn’t emulate the quality.
