7 days agoPublic transportation and walkable cities are much better for the elderly and disabled who often can’t drive due to their age and disability?
Taking a wheel chair or mobility scooter or be guided by your service dog are all subsets of “walk there”.
Unfortunately the right has spent an incredible amount time and money making LGBTQ, DEI, and other “woke” issues the focus of the conversation around progressive politics. It’s gotten to the point where anyone who supports broad application of civil rights has to spend all of their time and energy defending that support leaving no time or energy to pronote their economic policies like improved working conditions, better healthcare, or accessible child care.
It’s a flood the zone strategy that has worked incredibly well. Particularly in purple districts where Democratic representatives that barely won thier districts see no path to reelection if they continue to support “woke” issues.
They’re at the point where it’s abandon some social issues and get reelected so they can champion economic issues, or continue to support social issues and lose their seat to a Republican who won’t do either. Unfortunately in the real world their are people that have different opinions than ours and so elected officials have to pick their battles.
