  • You’re still assuming it’s intentional…

A leaky pipe that slowly forms a stain that looks like the Virgin Mary doesn’t mean something made that simulation of an intentional representation of a religious figure show up.

And regardless of if anyone ever noticed the similarities or even sees it, it’s still there.

The entire universe might just be leaky pipes and if something “bigger” out there looks at the resulting water stain, maybe out of everything they could observe, something would remind them of their existence and they might chuckle.

But it’s very unlikely to be humans just statistically speaking.

  • Nah, it’s for the same reason they never went to a jungle world.

Back in the day they just shot everything in the desert outside of LA. It’s the whole reason westerns were a thing in the first place, free setting.

So there was a bunch of props and sets from the studio, and Star Trek could do it for free.

I mean, wasn’t even MASH in the desert for some reason?

  • It’s the same thing Brazil did.

He’s rich enough that he’s kind of a parent corporation by himself, so:

X was previously accused of violating the Digital Services Act (DSA), which could result in fines of up to 6 percent of total worldwide annual turnover. That fine would be levied on the “provider” of X, which could be defined to include other Musk-led firms.

But yeah, American law has been limited so the buck stops at the company which declares bankruptcy and the money starts a new company.

Not everyone else system is as shitty

Monopoly started out to show that capitalism is based on luck and opportunity, and that the end result is one person owning everything.

The whole process is miserable and even when you win you have to sit thru a prolonged ending where you slowly drain every last resource from you friends and family.

It’s not a bad game, they just overestimated how well Americans can pick up irony.

Originally called “The Landlord’s Game” Parker Brothers changed it to something less obviously terrible in the run up to the great depression.

I don’t know if Far Side is really that deep but:

The only way to win is to not play

Is literally the point the game tries to beat over family’s heads for hours at a time.

  • Direct from Seagate wouldn’t be bad, check their store first to see if you can cut out Amazon.

I was talking about random reseller stores. “Manufacturer refurbished” for things you can’t see is almost always a good idea. The manufacturer has their brand name on the line and usually go over common fail points and replace if it looks worn.

Stores/Amazon doing “renewed” means they tried to cover up superficial damage and is completely different. It might look ok on the outside and be complete junk on the inside.

Think of “renewed” as “open box returns” except it might have taken the last user 5 years to return. It’s a much worse gamble.

  • Depends.

If it’s “buy from Amazon” then you can return it with no issue if shits bad.

If Amazon is just the middleman, than the seller could be scamming and will either fight returns or just close up shop. I wouldn’t buy any used electronic over $200 from a middle man because of that, so this is kind of on the line.

But modern HDDs hold up a lot better than they used to. I tend to “ship of Theseus” PC builds and I’ve got some HDDs probably 15 years old that are still going strong.

I can’t remember the last time I’ve heard anyone say a HDD failed. Just people remembering what it was like 25 years ago. We don’t think of innovation with old tech like HDDs, but there’s been a lot of improvements to the parts that used to fail regularly.

Exos x18 are enterprise drives that came out last than 5 years ago, I can’t imagine they were replaced because they’re all bad, just companies upgrading to newer tech. So should be fine and last you well over a decade.

Some did, but the whole point of Israel was a place for European countries to send their Jewish populations.

People who even if they were also ethnically Semitic, were descended from people who voluntarily left the area generations ago.

They could have immigrated there, instead European governments just declared it was theirs now.

Like, imagine if every American with Irish heritage were granted birthright citizenship there and the people who never left are shoved down into an ever shrinking slice of land. That’s what’s happening
