Then again, I ponied up extra for the disc version of the original ps5 for that exact reason, only to find out the media player software is a giant piece of garbage that was clearly given no effort. So I can’t say I’m too surprised.
I have to disagree a little bit personally. It can be a chore, but sometimes there is a sense that you’re taking this generic piece of tech sold by the millions and tailoring it to your personal preferences. It’s a little silly and superficial, but it can add a little extra enjoyment to that whole experience of getting a new shiny that you’ve been looking forward to.
All that said, paying $95 for the experience of setting up a used exercise bike is one of the dumbest things I’ve ever heard.

For a quick and dirty clean room run the shower really hot for a few minutes to make a bunch of steam and then wait for the humidity to naturally equalize, boom you got a few minutes to do your swap job.

On the power disable feature topic, I’ve only bought a few used enterprise drives from Goharddrive.com and Serverpartsdeals.com, but they both included a handy little SATA power adapter with each drive for exactly that reason.
The first desktop I installed them in worked just fine with the factory PSU cables, but when I upgraded I was left scratching my head for a few minutes until I remembered those adapters!

Good fully wireless ear buds are truly an amazing convenience, but I value having flexibility and redundancy in my hardware more than having a slightly sleeker form factor. Thay includes things like removable battery, SD card slot, etc. Unfortunately, the market has spoken, and keeping those features limits you to a more and more niche selection every year. By now the tradeoff just isn’t worth it to me.
As far as USB dongles, I seem to have enough problems with USB-C ports becoming loose or flaky for charging that I avoid using them except when necessary. Wireless chargers abound in my house.
Ultra HDR is a new image format available with Android 14 on supported devices & camera. Basically it’s a JPEG image but some additional data added to it when captured on supported devices. With ultra HDR, images can have darker shadows and brighter highlights.
I thought the same thing at first, but it sounds like it is just that you can now view the “Ultra HDR”-ness within the app.

That’s exactly it. Cable management is a top-down design philosophy. The Borg are a collective that organically integrates biological, mechanical, electronic, and any other systems that they find useful–it’s quite literally the polar opposite of a top-down design philosophy.
It would be more surprising if the Borg had tidy cable management, because that implies some hierarchy. Actually, the Borg cubes are a little out of place in that regard. Spheres or fractal-ish structures would make more sense.

Seconding Plex / Plexamp if the use case involves streaming remotely. Probably the easiest to get up and running for remote access.
I’m not sure about the capabilities of hosting on a Pi, but it should be straightforward to run a couple different apps in parallel to test and compare features (I’m currently doing exactly that with Plex and Jellyfin)
