Saying that no one was using the Dialer and Message applications is a straight-up lie. What else do you think are de-google ROMs using? GrapheneOS, for example, is still using it.

For one, they are generally cheaper than your usual external drive. They usually last longer, too.

TBH, you should just buy an internal SSD and pair it with a USB adapter.
Convenience at the price of reliance on outside infrastructure.
I agree, but that doesn’t explain why Google is actively removing components from the AOSP, such as the Dialer and Message applications. Fast Pair support was also recently removed.
I just hate that 90% of the stuff that’s announced for the next major Android version is either part of Google Play Services (proprietary) or not part of the AOSP. Android is becoming less open source by the day. I would even argue that a pure AOSP phone isn’t usable nowadays.
Bound to GooglePlayServices, unfortunately.
To be fair, you could just add bogus information .
How do these programs work? Do they just record the stream?
Makes sense. What about individual folders? I’m concerned that the massive amount of small files could slow down the download quite a bit. Unfortunately, I’m not too familiar with the BitTorrent protocol, so I don’t know if this would have an impact.

I wouldn’t recommend a Synology NAS if you intend to stream content with Plex/Jellyfin. It simply lacks the horsepower most of the time. I should just go with a DIY solution, imo. If you just want to through components that you have lying around together, I would go with Unraid. Unraid doesn’t really care what you throw at it hardware wise.
