This is exactly why just sticking to the 90 day standard is better. For the supposed security researcher it’s a CYA move at worst.

90 days is just the standard timeframe for responsible disclosure. And normally that’s just a baseline with additional time being given if there’s genuine communication going on and signs they’re addressing the problem.

If they were really “the hero”, they’d follow the bare minimum of responsible disclosure best practices, and allow 90 days between privately alerting them of the issue and going public with it. Two weeks is absurd.

This is a bad take. It would work if D&D 5e were the only rules in existence, but it isn’t even the only version of D&D in the conversation, pretty alone the wife breadth of other systems out there. I’ve been singing Pathfinder 2e’s praises for nearly 2 years now, and if the problem with PF is that it’s too crunchy, there are numerous other much lighter systems out there like Dungeon World or 13th Age.

By all means, use 5e if it works for you, but that shouldn’t stop criticism of it in places where the rules can be exploited, especially if other systems lack those exploits.

It’s really unfortunate that Lemmy handles deleted posts in this way. It’s one of very few genuine advantages of the Reddit platform. Over there, if the OP deleted the post, the text they wrote would no longer be visible, but all the comments under it still would be. And people could continue to have that discussion, so long as they had the link.

Leave off the word “metre” and it doesn’t matter whether you’re using metres or cm. You’re “one eighty-six”. Is that a lazy way of saying “one [hundred and] eighty-six”, quite common when talking about numbers in the hundreds, or the lazy way of saying “one [metre] eighty-six [centimetres]”, a common shorthand similar to shortening “six [feet] five [inches]”? My first thought was your second bullet point. To really believe that argument though, I’d want to be able to think up a more detailed explanation. What specifically changed to cause them to send the kids off the ship?

Of your other theories, without having rewatched the episode recently enough to remember it, I like your idea that there may be enlisteds’ kids on board but that mentioning enlisteds wasn’t relevant at the time. I feel like the additional new assumptions are the fewest with that option.

Yeah the PHB for D&D 5th edition only had half-orcs as a playable race, but they added a full orc race with the 2016 Volo’s Guide to Monsters. idk about the 5e remaster though because I haven’t played or been interested in following the news of D&D since about mid 2022. I just found this meme on !196@lemmy.blahaj.zone and thought it belonged here!

I’m a little sad that that book took so long to arrive that I had gone from never even considering moving to another system (other than for some fun temporary one-shots & small campaigns to add variety) to basically not being able to imagine myself choosing to go back to D&D at all, between the time I paid for it and when it finally arrived 5 months ago. Because I really did love the idea of it when it was being Kickstarted.

I think that’s largely a consequence of the 5e design in general. It doesn’t leave a lot of room, natively, for exciting challenges from its monsters. You’ve got to go to third parties, like Colville’s “action-oriented monsters”, or other systems like PF2, to get that.

Lol wtf are you talking about? No they don’t. Everyone telling them they are wrong is being prescriptive. All they are doing is saying “it’s not wrong to use a word according to an incredibly common definition of that word”. Which is precisely the opposite of prescriptive.

What German word was used there? Are you suggesting gratis is German? Maybe it is, but it’s also English. And we didn’t even borrow it from German. It’s Latin.
