It’s a deep topic, with various theories how it works however it’s not lucid dreaming, which is also real, of coursez and anyone can do both. There are many guides how to, if you read the faqs on the subreedits.

Dude, you should see what a nice 2 gig episode of anythng looks like on a 70 inch dolby vision TV. It’s worth the extra space. I download 40 gig movies if they are DV.

I use a kobo- has a blue light filter, waterproof, backlight. Not sure about the selfhosted library, I throw everything into memory which is enough for thousands of books.
Anything but amazon.
