The free market has been deliberately shit at meeting the demands of consumers for quite some time. Big players like Apple have been very good at manufacturing hype and loyalty to deliver mediocre products for a consistent revenue stream instead. Smaller companies are either too irrelevant to make an impact or just try to mimic the more successful companies instead.

It does seem like it would be a reasonable tax scheme but it would have to be carefully balanced for the type of use for the land. It’d make sense to charge more for a factory making a lot of value for the economy compared to a high density residential building occupying the same area. I personally prefer mixed use zoning to make land use more efficient though so it’d be interesting to see how that’d go.

If you do get an e bike later know that some brands are very bad with reliability and support so you can end up with a $2000 brick on wheels. You know LoRa hardware is getting cheaper and the reliability of these TVs are just terrible. This is likely to happen sooner rather than later. What happens when it no longer needs your WiFi and uses something like LoRa to phone home with your data and location? It may not know who you are exactly but it’ll have a good guess.
