Maybe I’m just grouchy today but how in the world does a word coming up twice in a row translate to a language being flawed? That seems like calling spelling “flawed” because letters come up twice in a row in a word.

Correctamundo! Intellectual property law is yet another thing that needs reform. I don’t even like the term “intellectual property”. It’s a modern invention. For thousands of years everybody just repeated what they saw other people do, in a process called “the spread of civilization.” It worked great until inventions like the printing press created opportunities for business people who didn’t create anything to get rich by getting exclusive rights to other people’s ideas. But even then, copyright was always something you held not something you “owned”. The modern IP industry has done a very effective job at converting everybody to think of rights as property and infringement as theft. We need to return to the original concept that creators, who used to be freely imitated, can temporarily have exclusive rights to what they create because the public lets them. There’s nothing evil about this, it’s just a return to sanity.
The owner of this franchise is a right-winger who has been fighting minimum wage raises and probably thinks those pencil-pushers at corporate can kiss his ass LOL.
LOL I wonder how far back this goes. When I was young and immortal I ate at McDonalds a lot because it was handy, and the Quarter Pounder (aka Royale) with Cheese was my favorite thing there. After decades of avoiding it I did venture into one a couple years ago. Was a yuge McLetdown.
He came here to play cards and smoke cigars, and he’s on his last cigar.
Some not have way.
Former WotC guy here… I find this hilarious.
Same here. And speaking of bubbles I haven’t seen anything about NFTs in quite a while. I don’t think that bubble burst tho, it just sort of shriveled up and blew away.
Cool idea, except the pirates wouldn’t be part of it cuz the era you’re calling the “old west” didn’t start in 1800 - westward expansion was in its early beginnings then. The classic era of gunslingers and saloons and stuff was really a very brief period between the Civil War and the 1890s. Another forgotten bit of trivia about that time is that around 25% of cowboys then were black.
The AI bubble might be the 2020s’ dotcom bubble.
I don’t like it dripping with grease either, I like it dripping with honey and just the right amount of butter!
So they’re more worried about misinformation about the results than misinformation that influences the actual voting. Well alrighty.
Unrelated, I can’t help noticing how much Altman reminds me of Luke Dunphy from Modern Family.
My two cats have an odd outside-the-box thing. One likes to leave a back leg hanging out, usually off the edge of whatever he’s sleeping on. The other does it with a front leg. They’ve always been very consistent about it.
Sometimes it helps if you remind yourself that criticizing a group they don’t belong to fills some peoples need to feel more powerful. For me adjusting my bad parking is just perfectionism or OCD. I even edit most of my comments after posting LOL.
Doesn’t seem that hard to get. From observation it appears that grown men can still long for father figures.
I just got into lemmy, and compared to reddit he seems refreshingly scarce here. Come to think of it so does Bonespurs.
Same. At least Bonespurs will probably soon have his final Big Mac Attack and the news will be all about MAGA self destructing as the hangers-on claw each other to pieces to get on top. Musk has a lot more years left in him. His smartest move would be to announce that he’s trans and make social media implode like a supermassive black hole.
Thanks! Noting this for if I’m ever in London again!
False dichotomies and flat truisms don’t start conversations tho, they end them. Yes, men have been treating women like sex objects since forever, but men have also NOT been treating women like sex objects - it depends on which men you’re talking about. And that sentiment does NOT equal simply ignoring that marital rape exists. The world doesn’t consist solely of extremes.
Think if you said getting AIDS was something gay men did. Statistically pretty true - the vast majority of AIDS cases among men are gay man - but do you think that would be a productive way to approach the subject?
