There is a debate to be had. But just as women benefit from women only spaces men might benefit from it too. Because sexual selection always plays a role in social dynamics, especially at that age. But I’m not sure it needs institutions for that, and that also isn’t an argument for men only “good old boys clubs”. More about good male (non toxic) role models.

But I only want browser apps, or local hosted / electron apps. I’d have easier options if I finally switched to linux of course. I wish there was a good review to compare all the options. I use the basic web app on slrpnk.net currently but I do miss a few things. For example:

• Way to selectively hide posts I’ve already seen (there is an option but it’s in settings and hard to toggle)
• A drop down menu for new inbox messages that can open in new tabs
• New messages should be smarter about when I’ve “read” them
• Collapse side bar without having to zoom to 170%
• Scale font and alter the theme
• Have images be the full width of the browser window without margins
• Merge multiple communities into one
• Endless scrolling

The last bit isn’t really relevant for your app, just a general rant really. It’s just that I’d like better image viewing support all around. Like in browsers there is an image and you can click on it but then a new tab opens. I have imagus but it’s not ideal and restricts the image to the smaller browser window. In the explorer I have quicklook now that opens images with space but the zoom feature is half assed too. Then many images apps have long startup times (>0.2 secs) or are bloaty. It’s just a bit annoying that it’s 2024 and PCs still can’t handle images really well.

I’d love a seamless zoom feature for images in the browser. I use imagus but I’d love if the popup window could zoom to be bigger than the browser window.

I sometimes think about this. Imagine you were an “immortal” being or mind in a powerful starship that could interfere with Earth. Like you could prevent the plague killing millions, but if you do we humans might not learn sanitation - or they need to learn later. Or do you prevent climate change because you know it will kill us all - but then humanity won’t learn and “evolve”. So when humanity does finally become interstellar and spreads over the galaxy, terraforming every planet and harvesting every resources, bulldozing everything and endlessly and exponentially grow - is it your fault?

As soon as you interfere you take on responsibility and guilt for every genocide or ecocide this civilization is going to commit in the future.

Outside completely cosmological threats it becomes quite iffy. Even something like a planet killer meteor could be argued that if the species knew it could happen but didn’t put effort into preventing it, then that means they don’t value survival of intelligent civilizations enough. They don’t value theirs, why would they value other civilizations they encounter?

In reality Star Trek colonizing all these planets would eliminate future intelligent civilizations too. Imagine some star trek people would have stepped on Earth a hundred million years ago and found no signs of intelligent live, terraformed it. Or even just introducing countless microorganisms on your shoe. You wouldn’t be able to read this silly comment :D It would be a kind of temporally displaced genocide. Of course NASA is already thinking about this and no colonization would make for rather boring drama, but a modern “hard sci-fi” would have to have artificial space habitats (orbitals / halos) as the main living spaces and leave any potentially live giving planets alone.

Then another argument would be about diversity. For an immortal being, planets could be seen as bio computers creating incredibly complexity and irreplaceable wealth of information. A new way to exist or how not to exist. As soon as you interfere you taint that and have removed some of distinctiveness of their culture with your own culture.

And I think this is genocidal propaganda and misogyny drafted by FOX news. Yeah that’s grossly exaggerated and over the top, but hear me out:

First of all she’s not very political. At least not as far as I can tell, her opinions are rather mild basic human decency level stuff, but I don’t know much about her. This to your charge that she “preaches”.

Second, society being what it is you CAN’T practice what you believe, because our economy is build a certain way. She can’t do her job without a private jet, so even though there is some valid criticism there you’d also have to put the emissions her business use creates on the concert goers or consumers. It goes on their CO2 budget no hers. She even bought CO2 offsets which are BS of course.

Third, she’s being singled out, possibly because she’s supposed to be this white madonna. It’s apparently true that she uses her jet for private and “frivolous” purposes. But with all the jet setting going on, it’s at least suspicious that people want her to be the symbol of all evil. Some very clever sociopaths crafted this strategy because she’s the perfect symbol for it.

Lastly, even if all the criticism of her was justified it’s a distraction from the monumental and systemic issues preventing any meaningful action on climate change: Land reform, veganism, election reform, wealth redistribution, redesigning how we live and work, patents preventing adoption of improvements, planned vs free economy. Those are topics that nobody wants you to talk about. So instead it’s advantageous to blame her.

Afaik this all started with FOX news bashing her jet and the joke was “why is CO2 bad FOX news?”. But it WORKED!!! They have successfully disseminated a conspiracy theory that 20% of voters believe now and memes like this are trending.

Sorry about the rant, I really don’t mean to accuse anyone seriously of this, but this is the PR mechanisms I see working behind this stuff.
