What is that, about tree-fiddy American?
What is that, about tree-fiddy American?
Aren’t there alternative file explorers for Windows? Or did support for that kind of thing end with Windows 7?
Are you even a Linux user if you don’t randomly wonder what operating system the person in front of you in traffic prefers? It’s a good thing that this person says “wonder no more.”
Is that what that is?! It just randomly started happening and I thought an update screwed up my compositor.
So with that question answered, how the hell do I turn it off, because it’s annoying as hell.
Every single one of us, as kids, learned the concept of “garbage in, garbage out”; most likely in terms of diet and food intake.
And yet every AI cultist makes the shocked pikachu face when they figure out that trying to improve your LLM by feeding it on data generated by literally the inferior LLM you’re trying to improve, is an exercise in diminishing returns and generational degradation in quality.
Why has the world gotten both “more intelligent” and yet fundamentally more stupid at the same time? Serious question.
Please don’t lump us all together.
There’s a reason debt collectors refuse to deal via email.
We’ve come full circle back to pagers.
I’m sure I’ve still got mine in a drawer somewhere
Our point of sale software doesn’t work with it. So they blocked the update until it does.
Good god, why not just use Gnome?
They’re ‘taking inspiration’ if you will, transforming it into something completely different.
That is not at all what takes place with A.I.
An A.I. doesn’t “learn” like a human does. It aggregates multiple chunks from multiple sources. It’s just really really tiny chunks so it’s hard to tell sometimes.
That’s why you can ask two AI’s to write a story based on the same prompt and some of their lines will be exactly the same. Because it’s not taking inspiration from, it’s literally copying bits and pieces of other works and it happens that they both chose that particular bit.
If you do that when writing a paper in university it’s called plagerism.
Get the fuck out of here with your “A.I. takes inspiration…” it copies nothing more. It doesn’t add anything new to the sum total of the creative zeitgeist because it’s just remixes of things that already exist.
rear fingerprint reader was peak and I don’t know why it went away.
with a rear reader I could grab my phone and it would be unlocked with an index finger before I’ve even lifted it to my face. it was all one smooth motion.
Now, I have to pull it out of my pocket, orient it correctly so my thumb can hit the correct part of the screen, half the time shake the phone or swipe up to wake up the screen to make the reader work consistently, then hold down my thumb for at least a second longer than I would have to with my rear reader.
dumbest so called “advancement” in years.

They quite literally tried to claim that they invented the rectangle with rounded corners…

That’s my strategy as well. I just don’t know how many of us there are that are that committed vs the people who are “temporarily irate” and then go back with their next purchase because its “easier”.
I get that. And, playing the devil’s advocate here…what happens in a couple of years when the time comes to purchase a new Laptop/desktop that comes pre-installed with Windows? Will your current ire and consternation hold up until then, meaning you’ll take the effort…long after this current “trust crisis” is over…to install Linux once again. Or, with this current scandal a faint memory from a few years back, will you just kind of shrug and say “Hey…it’s there, I might as well just go with it.”
I mean no offense, and I by know means want to presume your answer here. But I’d be willing to bet 90% of the people who, in a pique of ire, replace their current windows with a linux distro, won’t bother to do the same when they purchase a new laptop down the road.
Windows only sadly. I’m on Linux
I like Krita. But to be honest, after years and years of using GIMP, I ironically have nothing but trouble trying to rewire my brain to do things any other way. The same problem that many people have when moving from Photoshop to GIMP.
Also, i fundamentally need DDS files, which Krita (AFAIK) doesn’t handle.
I actually don’t think its a “bad” idea to have an AI helper like a copilot or a Gemini on my computer. But I don’t want it integrated into every system. I don’t want it to have any more access than I choose to give it each time I use it.
I can see myself making use of a sandboxed AI, installed kind of like a flatpak or an appimage. I can call it up, ask it to do something for me and if it needs access to something temporarily in order to do it, it can ask nicely and I say sure on an as hoc basis and then shut it down again.
