I don’t want this any more than I wanted apps piled on to my home screen.
Yeah, this is just trading the possible need to open after installing for needing to close the app I wanted to use later. I see it as trading one click for two swipes.
Better be turned off by default.
Why? Are people that lazy?
Do you say this about all QoL updates? I’m not going to use this and also think Google sucks in general, but this is such a benign, optional little feature for people who might find it more convenient. Isn’t that what development should be all about?
I just don’t see this as a QoL update that’s all…
then they will start downloading new apps that you might be interested in automatically
It already does this in the phone setup.
I’m not sure why these comments are so negative so far. If I’m understanding the article correctly, it is an optional setting to automatically open the app as soon as it is done installing. The Play Store isn’t just installing and opening apps on its own.
Because just like on Reddit, most people here do not read the articles. 😁
App Auto Open appears to be an optional feature that you’ll be able to toggle off or on. However, it will be toggled on by default.
Also, even the fact that it is on by default is a problem in itself.
Just like auto updates is a feature I turn off, and yet I still get automatic app updates (and I set all network use options to “ask”, and it never does).
I’ve had the same problem across multiple phones since about 2015.
It’s the Internet… Everything new is bad.
What’s next? Gemini going to buy apps for me without extra taps?
The closest feature to this is the smart download feature in YouTube Premium, which automatically downloads videos that the algorithm finds suitable for you to watch.
