    From what I remember, it was originally something that impoverished people did as the only way they could get coffee. It’s culinary gentrification, like lobster and even caviar. For the rich, everything is mainly a status symbol, even food and drink.

      Exactly this.

      AFAIK it’s good coffee because (wild) civets select perfectly ripe berries to eat. Captive civets just get fed berries.

        It was very smooth from what I remember. Good, but not that special. Assuming it was real ofc.

      Why would they do that when coffee trees literally grow where the chivets live? They can just pick the berries themselves instead of waiting for the chivets to shit.
